Description Correspondence from James Spencer of the Burntisland Oil Company regarding the water supply to his Company. 1885. Letter from Mr Spencer explaining what he thought was the best way to route pipes to enable his Company to receive a water supply. He tells Mr Dow that he will send him a sketch showing him the route. dated 19th January Mr Spencer refers to the sketch which he sent him and explains that he intends to lay down a pipe from Rodenbrae to the works , keeping it high enough to run over the ridge at Whinnyhall . He goes on to discuss how much rent his Company will pay for the service and expenses. dated 30th January Mr Spencer tells how pleased he is that Mr Dow got the Council to agree to grant his Company a water supply. He goes on to tell him that as soon as he gets Messrs Swan Brothers to get the agreement made out , he will arrange to have it signed. dated 12th February Mr Spencer tells Mr Dow that he is glad to hear that Messrs Swan Brothers have given their permission to allow the laying of pipes for a water supply for his Company. He goes on to ask him if he can arrange for Mr Grainger and Mr Bairnfather to meet with him and Provost Smith to discuss the railway. dated 16th February Mr Spencer writes that they are well advanced with the laying of the pipes for the water supply and asks if Mr Dow will arrange for some of his Committee to examine the work. dated 2nd April Note saying that Mr Spencer will meet with the Town Council Committee to inspect the progress that his Company has made in laying water pipes dated 7th April Letter telling Mr Dow that the ground selected for the proposed reservoir does not belong entirely to Mr Spencer's Company and that it would be better to divert the reservoir so that it is built on ground belonging wholly to his Company. He goes on to say that if the Council agree to his suggestion, he will get them the best terms possible. dated 4th July. 7 documents
