Description Correspondence from Mr Grainger, General Manager of the Burntisland Oil Company regarding the water supply required for the Company. 1885. Mr Grainger refers to meetings between Mr Dow and , Mr Spencer and between Mr Dow, Provost Smith, Mr Bairnsfather and himself and states that he wants to explain what was agreed. He goes on to outline what his Directors have agreed to pay for the water supply, the fixed rent, and the conditions if it is found that there is a scarcity of water. dated 19th February Mr Grainger is surprised to learn from Mr Dow that his Company's generous offer has been refused and that the Water Board has put large obstacles in the way of further negotiations. He goes on to tell Mr Dow that the conditions offered by his Company were so generous to avoid any dispute, that he must decline and continue as before. He points out that the Edinburgh Water Company has expended more than a million and a half pounds on their reservoirs and filters before they were in a position to charge at the rate suggested. dated 25th February Letter from Mr Grainger enclosing three signed agreements and the schedule containing the particulars for witnesses to fill up. dated 12th March Mr Grainger tells Mr Dow that he has received the Siemens Meter from Mr Spencer and asks if the Council engineers can come to the Company to fit it as soon as possible. dated 23rd March Mr Grainger writes that Mr spencer has informed him that the Council has approved of the site for the meter but not the meter question and urges Mr Dow to reply at once if he approves of the meter. dated 31st March Letter from Mr Grainger saying that he notes what Mr Dow has said was arranged with Mr Spencer and by Provost Smith and Bailie Sim but that he has informed Mr Spencer that the meter he mentioned is the one that the Council wish. dated 2nd April Note apologising for the contamination of the stream passing the farm of Common and telling Mr Dow that immediate steps will be taken to prevent pollution of the stream in the future. 13th May 9 documents
